Communication and organization confidentiality

Both child welfare and pupil records are confidential. Doesn’t that block communication?

Confidentiality laws do not prevent communication. Rather, they establish parameters to control it, to protect the privacy of the individuals involved.

There is significant opportunity for communication and collaboration under existing laws, either by consent of the parent or guardian, a court order or specific statutory authorization. For the most part, school personnel release information from student records with signed parental consent or a court order.
